Edgar Vila responds to reopening of Laura Song investigation and releases new information

The Daily Clue recently reached out to Edgar Vila to comment on the news that the Los Angeles mayor is calling for an investigation into Lucky Dragon's human trafficking allegations. His full statement is below.

"First, I would like to applaud the mayor’s firm decision to open an investigation into Lucky Dragon’s nefarious activities that exploit and traffick immigrant workers and her choice as well to reopen the investigation into Laura’s disappearance. Not only is this a matter of justice, but I fear these two cases are inevitably linked.

"Second, I call on the mayor and her team to protect the exploited workers and their families with LAPD protection around their homes and commutes as well as guarantee legal protections that prevent deportation or turning over private information about immigration status to ICE and other immigration authorities. Under the California Values Act, California is legally a sanctuary state and I expect the mayor to strictly uphold the tenets of this law and declaration, and provide a clear and reasonable path towards citizenship for the victims and their families. The mayor must act with urgency and haste, otherwise Lucky Dragon and their snake-headed associates will move to hinder the investigations by silencing innocent hard-working immigrants who have shed blood, sweat, and tears to build homes here and support themselves and their families. I urge the mayor to act now, before it’s too late. People’s lives are at stake here. "Third, in regard to the case of Laura’s disappearance I would like to share previously withheld information: During the time window of Laura's disappearance, I was in fact in a private disciplinary hearing with CAL U Faculty #4 and #5.

"This is embarrassing to admit, but the rumors surrounding my relationship with Laura became distracting for me and I inevitably let my grades slip from the pressure of it all, placing me on academic probation. I originally didn’t want anyone to know about this, especially my family. I was honestly ashamed about it. I still am. But the circumstances call for me to be forthright and set the record straight. I was not present at the time of Laura’s disappearance and the foremost thing on my mind right now is finding her and protecting the immigrant workers exploited by Lucky Dragon.

"Given the racist smear campaigns perpetuated by Lucky Dragon used to target me as a suspect in this case, I believe they had a reason to cover up evidence and shove the blame on a scapegoat, taking advantage of insecurities in people that arise from cruel and restrictive immigration laws to divide the people of LA Chinatown and El Pueblo and fuel racial tensions in this time where unity is not only called for, but required and necessary. I hope to help with this investigation to my fullest power, but if something should happen to me—god forbid—the world will know who did me in. I pray for my family’s safety and security."

The Daily Clue reached out to Cal U faculty #4, who confirmed that Edgar attended a private disciplinary meeting with him and faculty #5.
